In general, our fonts are available in OpenType Format (OTF) with outlines based on the Postscript standard. OTF can be used on both MACs and PCs. Older display fonts are still listed as "Postscript Type 1" for MACs and PCs. We provide free fonts and LTD fonts in TrueType format (TTF).
» topOpenType formats are based on the Unicode character map (and not on ASCII, as was previously the case). For this reason, the software used must be able to process Unicode.
Operating systems: Windows NT, 2000, XP (or later), MAC OS X (all versions)
Applications: Adobe Creative Suite 2 (or later), Microsoft Office Version 97 (or later)
Windows provides an integrated font management function that can manage Postscript or OTF fonts. However, we recommend that you use professional font management software, such as Linotype FontExplorer or Adobe TypeManager. “Adobe TypeManager Light” (ATM) is available free of charge at Adobe’s website: www.adobe.com/products/atmlight/index.html.
» topWe started the foundry as designers for designers, who at that time mostly used MACs. That's why there is certain display fonts that have not been made available in PC versions. However, newer fonts are available for both MAC and PC.
» topLicense holders convert fonts to other formats at their own risk. DGV does not provide a guarantee for converted fonts. The converted font is subject to the same license conditions as the original. The converted font may not by renamed or sold.
» topThe standard character set contains 256 characters (Western Latin A). Extended fonts with “CE” (Central Europe) added to their name contain 356 characters to handle all Slavic, Turkish and Northern European languages. Fonts with “CY” (Cyrillic) in their name only contain the characters necessary for languages written using the Cyrillic alphabet. Fonts with the affix “PRO” contain the characters for all the individual language sets that we supply.
» topA single license allows for the installation of the font on a maximum of 5 devices (computer, laptop, printer, computer-to-plate device). A multi license allows for installation on a maximum of 20 devices. If more workstations are necessary, further multi licenses must be purchased depending on the number of devices used.
The devices must be owned by the license holder. The legal form of the license holder is the decisive factor here (e.g. staff employed in an agency may use the font; each individual must purchase a single license in shared offices or project teams with freelancers).
You can request upgrade offers for your license at any time by presenting your invoice. Customers who wish to extend their single license to a multi license will also receive all available format versions (MAC and PC).
License holders can also upgrade “Blender” to “Blender PRO”, for example, at a relatively low cost. For all upgrade inquiries, please send an e-mail to: shop@gestalten.com
NO. Acquiring a font license only leads to the granting of usage rights. These usage rights are non-transferable. If your customer also wishes to work with the font, the customer must obtain its own license. If you are creating artwork for a customer and this customer will not have the right to edit this artwork, then your customer does NOT need a license.
» topOnly if these people belong to the SAME company, which licensed the font, and if the number of persons is covered by the license.
» topNO. The recipient of this gift will not be a license holder and therefore not be authorized to use the font.
» topAs a rule, the recipient of the invoice is always the license holder. When placing your order or creating an account on the Gestalten website, please ensure that the company name specified as the invoice recipient is correct. When creating an account, it is a good idea to specify the managing director as the recipient of the invoice.
» topIt is technically possible to extract embedded fonts from certain documents. The font could then be used in an unauthorized manner. For this reason, we only allow documents with embedded fonts to be forwarded to recipients who are also license holders. In the case of forwarding to third parties (e.g. sending of newsletters or forwarding to a printing company), the license holder must ensure that the font cannot be extracted from the document. It is possible here to partially embed the font in the document or to convert it to non-editable character paths.
» topYES. You may work with the design of all elements of the script freely and modify these. However, the modified font is still subject to the same license conditions as the original. The modified font may not by renamed or sold.
» topWe welcome new fonts that are sent to us: fonts@gestalten.com
The prerequisites are creative originality, a design that can be seen to be thought out, and good technical implementation. Copy-cats and simple modifications are not welcome.
Your invoice serves as your license documentation. Please send us an e-mail with your invoice number. We will check your details and send you a new copy as soon as possible.
» topUnfortunately we are unable to offer student discounts. But you might want to purchase a single font weight instead of a whole font family to lower the burden on your budget.
» topWe can't supply test versions of any of our fonts. However, many of our text fonts can be tested on our typewriter. Additionally you can download a sample PDF with layout examples and a complete character set for our text fonts. This should be sufficient to get an impression of the design characteristics of the font.
